Pride and Prejudice Thoughts or Questions

  1. Well, I'm not sure how relevant this is, but it's something that has confused me for most of the book.
Sometimes, when refering to certain town or person, instead of naming it, Austen makes a ---. This makes it rather difficult to understand exactly where Jane is in relation to ---shire. I suppose Mr.--- is a very nice person, but who is he?

Is there a reason Austen does this so often in the book? Is the person or place real, so Austen cuts out the name? Or is it just something she put in to bother her readers?
